DIY: Summer Kimono ✂

What you need;

Sewing machine
Around 1 metre of material (I picked chiffon)
Thread that matches your material
Scissors
Pins (I used safety pins because I didn't have proper ones)
And preferably some measuring contraption but I winged it and didn't use one

Step 1: Lay your material out

Step 2: Fold over

Step 3: Fold over again so you have a square

Step 4: Measure your shoulder to your thigh (or to the length you want your kimono to be) then measure it against the left had side of your material. Cut a small line to where the length will go to. Then measure your arm length and repeat the process but at the top of your material.

Step 5: Cut so you end up with a shape like this. (I winged this part like crazy, so I cannot give measurements but follow your instincts. You really can't go wrong! )

Step 6: Open your material up

Step 7: Set up your sewing machine, turn your material inside out

Step 9: Sew the bottoms of the arms and side of material

Step 10: Cut a line in the middle, all the way to the top then cut 5" left and right at the top of the material

Step 11: At the end of the 5" you just cut, diagonally cut down like so on both sides, like so;

Step 12: It's time to hem the bits you just cut (step 10 & 11) To hem, all you need to do is get your sewing machine and your material. With the edge you are hemming, fold the edge over slightly and place on your sewing machine and sew. Then repeat with the other edges. Click the video below to see a demostration.

Step 13: Your kimono is complete!

The sewing machine I use is the Janome mini machine which you can buy from good ol' Hobbycraft. If you're a beginner and need a sewing machine, I personally recommend this machine as it is so easy to use and lightweight. The functions are all self explanatory which makes it ten times easier to use. There are so many different ones from the knit and stitch range from Hobbycraft which are affordable. You can check them out here.
